Value Engineering (VE)
Value Engineering is a continual mindset, not just a one-time event. It begins as soon as we become involved in a project. But early involvement is key.
The best time to maximize value while minimizing the impact to the project occurs in the preconstruction stage. Through a process called "Value Engineering" (VE), Zwick reviews the drawings early-on, and identifies areas ripe with potential savings. Each option is evaluated from several advantages including from the perspective of Cost and Schedule. Ideal options and areas of cost savings are then presented to the owner and design team for evaluation and possible selection.
Establishing an early project baseline in terms of both cost and schedule is essential to capitalize on the value engineering process. Through “real-time estimating,” design progress and decisions are constantly evaluated. This process provides the necessary and timely information required to make educated and insightful decisions regarding what will bring the best value to the project. Preconstruction estimates are continuously updated to reflect the current design status.
